Law firms rely on document comparison applications like compareDocs because changes can impact a case no matter how small.
Legal secretaries and members of a Word processing department, in particular, rely on document comparison technology to find changes in complex legal documents. These documents often include tables, footnotes, and numbering requiring specialist comparison software, like compareDocs, to interpret the changes accurately.
At Simpson Grierson, a leading commercial law firm in New Zealand, staff used document comparison software to ensure accuracy. However, with this particular solution, Information Services Director Valerie Fogg, explained that “users were finding comparison workflows weren’t streamlined and involved too many steps to get from a to b.”
For example, comparing anything other than Word or PDF files required an additional step for conversion.
In addition to the slow workflows, the integration with the firm’s iManage document management system caused stability and performance issues.
Integrating document comparison
Simpson Grierson switched to compareDocs to take advantage of iManage integration and more streamlined workflows.
“The feedback from users now is compareDocs is easier to use than the old solution because of improved integration and workflows that involve fewer steps to complete,” Valerie said.
Document comparison integrated with a document management system like iManage means more straightforward workflows for users. “Users can drag-and-drop documents and compare more file types than before, including Excel and PowerPoint,” Valerie commented.
compareDocs has also made it easier for the firm’s IT staff to manage how changes are formatted within the comparison report. Administrators can easily customize rendering sets and deploy them to every user at the firm.
